CONVICTED DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON, WITHOUT PAROLE
Defendant Failed to Abide by Conditions of Pre-Trial Release
DALLAS - Jose Antunes-Aguirre, 47, was sentenced to 300 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Jorge A. Solis, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper, of the Northern District of Texas. Aguirre, a Terrell. Texas, resident, was indicted in September 2003 in the Northern District of Texas, and charged with one count of possession with the intent to distribute and the distribution of methamphetamine. A U.S. Magistrate Judge released him on bond. Antunes-Aguirre later failed to abide by the Court’s conditions of release and ultimately failed to appear for a scheduled court appearance in June 2004 which resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant. Approximately two years later, he was arrested near the Mexican border.
Antunes-Aguirre was returned to the Northern District of Texas where he pled guilty in January to the indictment, admitting that he had sold several pounds of methamphetamine, or “ice,” to an undercover drug enforcement agent.
